"Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras is an organisation whose aims include the recognition of diversity within the gay and lesbian community and beyond. In this time where Indigenous Australians are experiencing challenges to their human rights we wish to express our support for the process of reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. "  

"Lesbian and gay Indigenous Australians have experienced discrimination often within the gay and lesbian community and in the wider community. It is our responsibility as an organisation representing gay men and lesbians locally, nationally and internationally to express our concern at the current situation where the significant and vital process of Reconciliation to bring all Australians together is under threat. "  

"We support and maintain respect for difference and equality for all groups who are faced with discrimination. Now is the time, we believe, to stand together with our Indigenous Australian brothers and sisters and other Australians and speak out for social justice, human rights and recognition of the relationship Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have to this land, Australia."  

"We recognise that our organisation is - and our events are held - on the land of the Aboriginal people and we call upon members of the gay, lesbian and transgender community and the general population to support Reconciliation and the recognition of Indigenous Australians' connection to their lands."
